Montgomery has stated that this not a political organization but he says that organizers hope to put "a little pressure" on the district trustees and that the group is "trying to bring the water issue to the forefront''. ''We want to provide action," he went on to say. Sounds political to me, trying to use the Fryeburg Water District for something is was not intended to be used for. So, let's look at this issue a little more closely. There major differences between Poland Spring(Nestle Waters), the Fryeburg Water District, and the Fryeburg Water Company. The only purpose for the Fryeburg Water District was to purchase the Fryeburg Water Company.
The Fryeburg Water District is not a vehicle to be used for personal and/or political agendas. It would have made good sense to make the Fryeburg Water District inactive, to save operating costs but the voters have spoken.
The Fryeburg Water Company is not for sale and will not be for sale in the near future. Hugh Hastings, president of the Fryeburg Water Company, sent a letter to John Weston, the Water District trustee chair saying, "the Fryeburg Water Company is not for sale at the present time or expected to be for sale for many years to come."
It was never the intent of any on the Fryeburg Water District board of trustees to supervise or monitor the Fryeburg Water Company or Poland Spring for that matter. That that authority falls on the Public Utilities Commission, a state agency.
In the next Op/Ed I will speak to the hidden agendas surrounding the Fryeburg water issue, including Food & Water Watch and an even darker, hidden agenda United Nations Action Plan 21.
