Red Iron Bridge: It's about ferrous oxide, not H2O but it's still an issue in Fryeburg

Crumbling concrete and exposed steel reinforcement rod on the underside of The Red Iron Bridge in Fryeburg Harbor pose the greatest risk to the public according to the  Maine Department of Transportation.

The Red Iron Bridge meeting on October 17th at 6:00 pm at the Fryeburg Fire Station

Summary of the issue by the Daily Sun:

FRYEBURG — Repairing or replacing the Red Iron Bridge would cost the town between $387,000 and $750,000. In November, residents will be asked if they want to pursue those options or have the bridge torn down.
Last week, town manager Sharon Jackson said it would cost the town $387,000 to repair the bridge and $750,000 to replace the bridge. These figures represent half the actual cost of the work as the state of Maine agreed to pay the other half. The repair figure does not include $250,000 for painting the structural steel, which the Maine Department of Transportation recommends.
"Not cheap," said selectman Tom Klinepeter.
The bridge is showing signs of damage and deterioration and was closed by the state "to protect public safety."  MORE
