BROWNFIELD, Maine - It was this reporter's pleasure and great privilege to be at the official renaming of the Brownfield Bog. The 11:00 a.m. ceremony was well attended by friends, relatives and colleagues of the late Major Gregory Sanborn. This pristine wildlife area is now known as the Major Gregory Sanborn Wildlife Management Area
Several of his friends spoke about the dedicated and reliable man they referred to as 'Greg'. His wife also spoke about his dedication to his work and love of family. Greg had fought a long and difficult battle against a very rare form of cancer for over a year. He passed away on February 5, 2013. The type of cancer that claimed Greg's life was Cutaneous T-cell Lymphoma which to be treated required a stem-cell bone marrow transplant. In the search for a donor for Greg, thousands of people were added to the donor list.

Gregory Sanborn was born on November 11, 1965 in Bridgton, Maine, son of Harold and Blanche Sanborn. He was a graduate of Fryeburg Academy in 1984 and recieved his bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Maine in 1988. He then taught industrial arts at the Valley High School in Bingham and Molly Ockett Middle School in Fryeburg. He became a Maine Game Warden in 1990, fulfilling his life-long dream.
"Gregg was an ambassador for the service, the department and the people of the state of Maine. He will be missed by anyone who ever knew him," said Sgt. Ron Dunham, a 16-year warden service veteran. "He was very committed to whatever he was doing. He was committed to win. There are just some battles you can't win," Dunham said."I saw it right to the very end. I saw him fight just to stand. And then I saw him, finally, resolve that he would soon be passing. He did it very dignified. He definitely was unique. There will never be another like him."
