Home Funeral How-To Workshop. Learn how to care for loved ones after death at home with family and friends by attending a workshop Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Tin Mountain Conservation Center in Albany, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participants will learn about the benefits, legal rights and responsibilities of holding home funerals, plus information on blended (hiring a funeral director for specific services) and green funerals. The event is sponsored by New Hampshire Funeral Resources, Education and Advocacy, a nonprofit whose mission is to support informed funeral consumer choice through education ad advocacy. AbilityPlus Volunteer Orientation. AbilityPLUS Adaptive Sports and recreation is looking for volunteers for its programs this winter. This orientation, which will be held at 9:30 a.m. at the Attitash Adventure Center in Bartlett, will go over the on and off snow volunteer opportunities available as well as then benefits of becoming a volunteer. No experience working with people with disabilities is necessary. We will be meeting in the Attitash Adventure Center.
Free Youth Clinic. The Conway Boxing Club and Gym will hold a free youth clinic on boxing, self-defense, anti-bullying and personal safety at 10 a.m. at the boxing club and gym, located at Willow Common Plaza, 1857 White Mountain Highway in North Conway. 'Is There Fat in That?' Arts in Motion Theater Company presents "Is There Fat in That?" on stage at the Eastern Slope Inn Playhouse Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. "Is There Fat in That?" takes a humorous look at the highs and lows of being a cover girl. Maine native Ellen Domingos co-wrote and stars in "Is There Fat In That?" the true musical story of a child theater star at 8, a National Preteen Queen at 12, a starving New York Model at 24... and an eating disorder patient at 28. Co-written and directed by Brian P. Allen, with musical direction by Victoria Stubbs, "Is There Fat in That?" is a Good Theater on Tour production. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
Fryeburg Historical Society Open. The Col. Samuel Osgood  House, the new home of the Fryeburg Historical Society, is open for guided tours, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesdays and Saturdays through Christmas.  Groups are asked to call ahead for an appointment at 697-3484.
One Hip Night of Bellydancing. Imari & the Sahara Desert Dancers present One Hip Night of Bellydancing will be held 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9. at Salyard's Center for the Arts, to benefit Mountain Top Music in Conway. The performance will include solos, duos, trios, and choreographed group dances. Admission is a suggested donation of $10 per person (100 percent of money raised will go directly to Mountain Top Music). Early Bird Turkey Dinner. The Remick Museum is extending its annual Early Bird Turkey Dinner to two evenings, Friday, Nov. 8, and Saturday, Nov. 9, with two seatings each day, at 5 and 6:340 p.m. These farm-to-table meals feature nothing that comes from a can, just farm-raised turkey, corn bread dressing and all the fixings. The museum is located at 58 Cleveland Hill Road in Tamworth. 148th Annual Madison Church Donation. The 148th Annual Madison Church Donation will be held at Madison Elementary School starting at 5:30 p.m. Supper includes corn chowder ($4) and oyster stew ($5) and ice cream for dessert, followed by a cake auction at 6:30 p.m. There will also be large cut cake plates for $4 (8 pieces) and small cut cake plates for $2 (4 pieces). Chinese Auction. VFW Post 11557 in Albany will hold a Chinese auction of "Something Old, Something New," 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Albany Town Hall. There will be 50 prizes, as well as baked goods. The event is a benefit for the VFW veterans and their families.

Symposium On Hunger and Agricultural Sustainability.St. Peters Episcopal Church in Bridgton on Route 93 will host an all-day symposium on hunger and agricultural sustainability on Saturday, Nov. 9, beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at 3 p.m. After introductions, a riveting documentary titled "A Place at the Table," produced by Kristi Jacobson and Lori Silverbush will be shown. There will be time for question and answers following the film before the break for lunch. After lunch, a panel of local activists and visionaries will speak and provide action plans. Speakers include: Johanna Moore, creator of Cross-Walk outreach, Carmen Lone, Naomi King and Dan Cousins, Christine McDonald, Tilla Durr, Jamel Torres and a speaker from the Maine Cooperative Extension Center. After brief statements from the panelists, the group will break into open discussion groups created by those with particular interests with regard to a common purpose and will gather for 45 minutes for discussion and follow up action plans, followed by closing remarks.

Fee Free Day In National Forest. The U.S. Forest Service is waiving fees at most of its day-use recreation sites over the Veterans Day holiday weekend, Nov. 9. Day use fees will be waived across the White Mountain National Forest, however fees will remain in effect for overnight camping, cabin rentals, permits, reservations, and activities offered by concessionaires. Adult Learner Study Group. If you are 18 years or older and have wanted to earn your GED, now is the time. There will be a free adult learner study group meeting by appointment on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon at Carroll Academy at 11 Runnell's Hall in Chocorua, NH (across from the Chocorua Library). North Conway Model Railroad Club Open House. North Conway Model Railroad Club holds a public open house every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from May to Oct. 18 between 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the club's operating HO layout located in the Freight House at Conway Scenic Railroad's yard in North Conway.  The club’s 500 square-foot layout features selectively compressed replicas ofConway Scenic Railroad’s North Conway station and yard, Frankenstein trestle and Crawford’s station in Crawford Notch.Other features include a logging railroad, a large paper mill complex, a granite quarry, and a seaport city with a large steamship tied up at a pier.Mainline operations are conducted over a full length upper level loop and a shorter lower level loop.  Additional trains are operated over a logging branch, a trolley line and a special section of track devoted to Thomas the Tank Engine. As many as seven trains operate concurrently.   All operations are conducted by an all-volunteer crew.Admission is free but donations are gladly accepted.

Conway Contra Dance. Conway contra dance is held in Tin Mountain Conservation Center's hall on Bald Hill Road in Albany. There will be a potluck supper at 6:30 p.m., followed by the dance starting promptly at 7:30 p.m. and running through 9:30 p.m. All dances are taught. Music will be provided for this dance by Puckerbrush, with Eric Rollnick calling. Dances will be scheduled third Saturdays of the month, September through May.
