Affordable Care Act Program. The North Conway Public Library will present a program about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) at 5:30 pm at the Mount Washington Observatory Weather Discovery Center on Main Street in North Conway. The program will provide a general overview about ACA, defining and explaining key elements of the new law, and providing tips for consumers beginning to navigate the ACA waters. Mary Jane Jarrett, health care navigator for White Mountain Community Health Center, will discuss the changes that have been have made to health insurance for 2014, what the Health Insurance Marketplace is, who needs to apply for health insurance and who does not, who qualifies for lower rates and tax credits, how to enroll, and what are the penalties for not having health insurance next year. North Country Camera Club. The North Country Camera Club meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from September thru June in the Lecture Hall at the Kennett Middle School in Conway (use back door – plenty of parking – follow the NCCC signs.) Painting With Wool. Arts Council of Tamworth presents Painting with Wool, a workshop with fiber artist Marcy Schepker 1-2 p.m. at the Community School in South Tamworth. Community members of all ages are invited to participate in the creation of two needle-felted murals, “Our Home Through the Seasons” and “Celebrating Our Town and Its People.” Come with an idea in mind of something or someone you want to honor, remember, or celebrate, and Marcy will give you tools and skills to integrate it into the larger work. Workshop is free; donations in support of community-wide artist residencies are always welcome. There will be a new support/social group for working families hosted by Rustik Baby from 5:30 to 7 p.m. This is currently the only inclusive group in the valley for working families - moms, dads, caregivers, grandparents, etc. Future dates based on interest level. Colonial Holiday Fair. There will be a Colonial holiday fair from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Conway Village Congregational Church. Dinner is from 5 to 7 p.m. including corn chowder, authentic colonial shepherd's dinner (with lamb), traditional shepherd's pie (cottage pie), corn bread and salad and assorted home-made cakes with home-made toppings. The Mount Washington Valley Housing Coalition Benefit.There will be a fund-raising event for The Mount Washington Valley Housing Coalition at The Shannon Door Pub and Restaurant in Jackson. There will be raffle tickets and a portion of the money from each pizza sold will be donated to the organization. Auction items will include a sport club membership at the Eastern Slope Inn Resort, entrance for four to the Kahuna Laguna Water Park at the Red Jacket Mountain View Resort, a $50 gift certificate to the Flatbread Company, and a two-night stay for four at the Eastern Slope Inn or Attitash Mountain Village, a Starbucks gift bag, and a $15 gift card for the Toy Chest. There will also be a 50/50 raffle with half of the money collected from this raffle going to the winner. The Mount Washington Valley Housing Coalition is a local non-profit organization, which believes that affordable housing has a direct impact on the economic strength of the Mount Washington Valley, affecting both those who need it as well as broadly effecting business expansion.
