Androscoggin Ranger District Educational Programs. The Androscoggin Ranger District of the White Mountain National Forest invites residents and visitors to enjoy free programming each Wednesday and Saturday evening in July and August. The Wednesday Night with a Ranger series will take place on Wednesdays at the Appalachian Mountain Club’s Pinkham Notch Visitor Center at 8 p.m. The Dolly Copp Campground series will be at the historic Civilian Conservation Corps visitor center inside the campground at 7 p.m. Programs are approximately one hour in length and include time for conversation about the evening’s topic or any other National Forest issue. Programs are made possible by the White Mountains Interpretive Association, a non-profit organization that promotes and funds historic, scientific, educational and interpretive programs on the White Mountain National Forest. Community String Band For Adults. Seth Austen leads a community string band for adults from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. and 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. for beginners. Learn to play traditional New England, Appalachian, and Celtic music. Repertoire includes reels, jigs, hornpipes, hoedowns, rags, marches, and waltzes and explore the roles of different instruments in a string band and how to create harmonies, accompaniments, and arrangements. Tunes are taught by ear, but written music can be provided. Attendees should have basic playing skills on their instruments. Class not limited to stringed instruments. Family Centered Early Supports & Services (FCESS) offers a developmental parent/child playgroup for infant and toddlers in Wolfeboro from 9 to 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church. The playgroup is lead by an experienced Early Childhood Professional, who facilitates creative, child-centered activities that promote the development of children’s gross and fine motor skills, language, thinking/problem solving abilities, and social interactions.
