Fryeburg Selectmen Soliciting Proposals to Lease Campground

There is little doubt that Fryeburg's Canal Bridge Campground is naturally beautiful,
inviting and could be a prized asset but most agree it has to be managed properly.
FRYEBURG, Maine - November 07, 2013 - Below are some photos, taken this morning, of Fryeburg's town owned campground. Many people have told me that this campground has been plagued by poor management and had become 'party central'.
From the Conway Daily Sun:
''Selectmen hope to get Canal Bridge Campground open again next spring after it has been closed for the past couple of years. It has to get going again within two years or else the town would have to start all over on a state permit to operate a campground. The campground would have 36 "wilderness" campsites — down from 50 it had before being closed for renovations...'' MORE
Most of the reviews for this town owned campground have been less than complimentary.

People in town are worried that there will be a repeat of the poor management that has degraded the campground. One person told me last summer that they hoped the town would either sell the campground or close it permanently.

A request by the town of Fryeburg for proposals to operate the Canal Bridge Campground was published in the Conway Daily Sun yesterday. Selectmen will open the proposals at their next meeting in December.

Looks peaceful in November
