''It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.''
I had heard of businesses donating a percentage of profits to charity on certain days or donating all of their receipts for one day to a special fundraising effort. (Flat Bread Company in North Conway Village does this, as well as many others in our area). So I thought for a while, and then did some research.

The business concept I found is broadly defined as social entrepreneurship/social enterprise. Social entrepreneurship is the process of pursuing innovative solutions to social problems. More specifically, social entrepreneurs adopt a mission to create and sustain social value. They pursue opportunities to serve this mission, while continuously adapting and learning. They draw upon appropriate thinking in both the business and nonprofit worlds and operate in all kinds of organizations: large and small; new and old; religious and secular; nonprofit, for-profit, and hybrid.
Business entrepreneurs typically measure performance in profit and return, but social entrepreneurs also take into account a positive return to society. Social entrepreneurship typically furthers broad social, cultural, and environmental goals.
''Instead of more one-off or annual restaurant benefits, could we create Benefit Restaurants? What if we could build a model that generates continuous nonprofit funding from the energy we already spend, every dish, every drink, every guest, meal-after-meal, day-after-day? We wouldn’t need to ask anything extra from anyone – not from our guests, nor our purveyors, nor our staff. I believed deep-down, that people would care enough about any commitment we would make to do that to make such a commitment sustainable.'' - Bob Perry
There you have it. This business, as I said will be located in Fryeburg. It is a 1950's Retro Soda Shop with a menu featuring fresh local foods and will support local charities!

As for the charities, we have several in mind:
- Diabetes (Miranda Leavitt Diabetes Fund: It helps educate, assist and fund those who needed assistance managing their diabetes).
- Wounded Warriors
- Local Food Pantries
- Local Fuel Assistance Fund
- Harvest Hills Animal Shelter
- Jen's Friends Cancer Foundation (They provide supplemental financial assistance and other resources to cancer patients and their families in the Mount Washington Valley).
- The Upper Saco Valley Land Trust. (Their motto is Preserving Land for Community Benefit).
- A charity that serves the victims of abuse or domestic violence (Like Starting Point).
And
many others (your suggestions are welcome).
For a very clear example of this concept please go to: The Benefit Restaurant® Project - Although the new restaurant in Fryeburg is not part of this group, it is very similar in its design and purpose.
