Everest Talk. Legendary mountaineer Ed Webster will present his lecture "My Storm Years on Everest/Everest the Hard Way" at 7 p.m. at the Whitney Community Center. Sponsored by Jackson Public Library, Webster will tell the story of his successful ascent of a new route up Mount Everest without the usual assistance of oxygen bottles, radios, and Sherpa climbers to carry the necessary food and equipment. This will take place at the Whitney Community Center due to the anticipated large audience.
International Dinner and Adventure Series: India.Appalachian Mountain Club’s Pinkham Notch Visitor Center hosts an International Dinner and Adventure Series talk on “Delhi to Katmandu” by Nancy Zahornasky, with the cuisine of India, at 6 p.m. at the AMC Pinkham Notch Visitor Center. Dinner prices are $23 for adult AMC members and $28 adult non-members. Child, youth and group rates are available. Dinner is at 6 p.m., the program follows dinner. 'Mother Nature's Child' Free Film Screening. Parents, teachers and all those interested in the outdoors — and in the well-being of children — are invited to attend a free screening of "Mother Nature's Child: Growing Outdoors in the Media Age" on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m. at Cook Memorial Library in Tamworth.
The program is free; donations will be accepted to support future youth art and nature programming. The screening will be followed by an informal, participatory discussion, focusing on ways to get children outdoors to enjoy nature throughout our region. Some have called this effort the "no child left inside" program. Educators who participate in the post-film discussion will be awarded professional development credit; certificates will be available at the screening. 'Take Back Your Life!' Source Transformation Information Session. Morning Garden Parent-Child Class. The White Mountain Waldorf School offers an inviting environment that echoes the rhythms and atmosphere of a Waldorf Early Childhood Classroom during the Morning Garden, a parent-child class for infants, toddlers and their parents, Wednesdays, Jan. 8-Feb. 12, 9:30-11:30 p.m. The classes encourage young children to explore and engage in the wonders of the first years of life in group play. The class willll bake bread, sings songs, have circle time and play. The class also offers parents a place to connect and find a supportive group. The class will be lead by one of our experienced and trained Waldorf teachers. This is a six-week session, registration is appreciated, but walk ins are welcome.
