TOWN MANAGER REVOKES SAND PRIVILEGES

OPINION/NOTICE (FROM A CONCERNED CITIZEN)

What's it going to be next in Fryeburg!

After years of being able to grab a bucket of sand for our driveways we now have a town manager that decided it was a good idea to shut down the salt shed in the middle of the worst winter conditions in over 100 years.   It is a pretty sad  when you can't even get a bucket of sand from the town shed during emergency ice storm conditions for the safety of our elders and all hard working taxpaying residents. If the salt shed is being abused than a simple barrier allowing only walk in and walk out traffic would seem to be a better solution than banning everyone from the safety of a bucket of sand. If you agree that the residents of Fryeburg should be able to get a bucket of sand from the town shed, like they have been doing for years, please go to Trumbull's Hardware Store or Jockey Cap  Store and sign the petition that respectfully requests the Selectmen to open the salt barn to foot traffic so people can get a bucket of sand.

  1. I suppose if people weren't filling their hoppers and charging people to sand their driveways then they wouldn't have shut it down. The sign clearly said "for your own driveway, a couple buckets" not "steal truck full of sand so you can make money"

  2. I feel this story was very bias and although the seed of it was based on truth, it was horribly misconstrued. In fact this "rage against the town and sign this petition" is the reason why the shed is being shut down for the season. The town should be making every effort to keep residents safe, but residents should not abuse the assistance, which obviously more than a few have. I know it's been a scrappy season and some people have frightening driveways so I don't expect everyone to be able to scale back harshly, but hell, I've only used one 5-gal bucket because I know not everything needs to be sanded. Just paths to cars and doors and maybe behind wheels to get you going. When it's -20° who cares if the whole driveway has been sanded? It's so frickin cold you're only going to be doing stuff outside that you really need to (going from house to car and back). I'm just irritated with people who abuse the system because of a sense of entitlement.
