FRYEBURG, Maine - February 11, 2014 - The people who rent the first floor of this old Victorian home in the village are concerned that their propane dollar$ are literally and figuratively 'going through the roof'.

''Last winter the amount of propane used was bad enough but this year since the upstairs tenant moved out the amount has been astronomical.'' said the first floor tenant who wishes to remain anonymous for the time being. ''I can hear my furnace run and the upstairs one run also. It's about a 10 to 1 ratio, with mine running 10 times more often and as you can see by the photos, the icicles tell a graphic story that bears that ratio out and when the upstairs furnace does run, it only runs for 1 or 2 minutes.'' The landlord says that the upstairs thermostat is set for 55 degrees. But who knows?''

The cost of propane has indeed gone way up this winter due to supply and demand issues in other parts of the country but this renter's issue is having to heat an unoccupied apartment above her. Over $1000 in one month!, she said.
