FRYEBURG, Maine - November 22, 2016 - Construction is nearly complete on Eastern Slope Regional Airports runway apron project. Last Saturday, November 19, the new apron was deemed ready for aviation traffic. The Nelson Companies is the project's general contractor.

Eastern Slope Regional Airport (ESRA/IZG), also known as the Fryeburg Airport, is located three miles southeast of the Town of Fryeburg, Maine, off of Rt. 113/5 and is the closest airport serving the Mount Washington Valley area.

Eastern Slope Regional Airport is surrounded by beautiful rivers, ponds, and mountains, yet it’s only fifteen miles to the destination city North Conway, New Hampshire.

The airport has a history going back to January 1961 when it first received its funding from the Maine Senate.

Fryeburg airport (ESRA) is a vital transportation infrastructure link to the area, especially for critical services such as life flights, search and rescue, forest fire control, and potentially even military (National Guard) operations in times of disaster. It also serves as a place for student pilots and private pilots to train and maintain current flight status. Scenic flights and other recreational aviation activities are enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. The Eastern Slope Regional Airport is public, not private, and is open year-round for business and charter flights.

The mission of The Eastern Slope Regional Airport (ESRA) is to provide fuel and services to local and transient pilots through modern and upgraded airport facilities. This facility strives to be energy efficient and a point of pride to the community and region, supporting economic development and related employment.

The airport's vision is to be an essential part of transportation infrastructure of Mount Washington Valley Region which drives recreation, industry, business and commerce in the Mount Washington Valley and Western Maine.
