Tools are meant to be used.
It doesn’t matter what the tool is, its purpose is to do a job, and what that job is is determined by the tool. To a hammer, the saying goes, everything looks like a nail.
As people, we build the tools. And then we use them.
Sunday night the tools were guns. From a hotel room high-powered rifles pointed at concertgoers, turning them into objects for target practice.
In the weeks before we watched as two national leaders — one elected, one authoritarian — exchanged threatening words about the lethal reach of their bombs. The “Rocket Man” of North Korea and the populist president brandished their arms in a game of chicken that is likely far from over.
The tools, again, played their part...
